Prices on sold items in the markeplace

I've noticed a number of posts lately with people wondering why we all seem to delete the selling price of an item once it's paid for and marked sold. For some reason this became the practice with almost all of us, myself included.

Maybe it would be a good idea to stop doing this so there is something of a data base of selling prices to research. It could help you sell your lens when you're unsure of a fair value and help those trying to decide if that "great deal on Ebay" is really great or not.

So lets run a poll and see if we should all start leaving the prices visible.

Would be good to keep sold prices available to see for research and record purposes.
Is there any particular reason one would want to withhold that info on the other hand?

I've always left my prices up and never understood why people deleted them. I also leave the pics up.

We should leave our prices up as a service to members.

Doesn't everyone research Completed Listings on eBay? When buying, selling and , after a time, spotting trends they provide valuable insight. They're especially useful for "Unsold" Buy-it-Now research (too high), similar to the Fixed Price policy when we sell here.

I think in multi-item FS threads we originally replaced the price with a bold SOLDas a courtesy to those who might come upon the thread after an item was sold - the "courtesy" just sort became a practice..

Why would anyone delete the prices? I do not get this.

eBay only keeps searchable completed listings for 15 days. And, if it is a rarer item, none may show up in searches.

According to the MarketPlace Important Information and Regulations: We request that you leave item prices intact after marking threads as "Sold".

I was using eBay as an example of why WE should leave our prices up.

I used to replace the price with SOLD simply because it made it more clear (in my mind anyway) that the item was gone. But my latter listings I'm leaving everything intact because it is at least useful to see what price was (last) listed on items.

And I concur with graphicgr8s for concurring with Blue for concurring with Ash.

I thought that we were supposed to leave the prices up for that very reason and that people just haven't been paying attention to the guidelines. Did I imagine that?

Cheers,

All we need to do is add a SOLD to sold items in multi-item sale posts. Easy and efficient.
