Why video?

Ok - here is a random question for you all.

Why is there so much pressure on the still camera market -- now including the DSLRs -- to include video... no not just video... HD quality video. Yet, there is no pressure for a video camera to produce DSLR quality stills?!

Is this what is called a camera double standard?!

Some video cameras do take 9 MP still images.

IMO, still cameras and video cameras will slowly converge until eventually there will no longer be 'still' or 'video' cameras - only 'P&S cameras' and 'interchangable lens cameras' - all of which will be able to take stills and video.
