A lot of people are throwing around statements like, "barely anyone uses the focus point selection anyway" when discussing the new K-X. I thought I would take a poll and see how we all focus. Just mark the focusing method you use most.

Center and recompose I reserve for manual focus on my LX (to be able to use the split screen), with AF that's just very disturbing and much less convenient than concentrating on the composition and at the same time move the focus point around.

Besides, center and recompose can even give wrong results with lenses with curved focal planes!

the only problem the K-x will have is full autofocus (which is what P&S will use honestly, and what review sites like to ding you on), because you don't know what it picked. It will work fine with select and focus-recompose.

There is a focus error with center recompose, but you can predict it, and it is very small unless you are using a razor thin DOF in that case I use manual focus anyway.

my K-m can't select focus points and sometimes when I focus and recompose with the shutter, it's inaccurate most of the time probably due to the lack of AF points. So I have to use the AF button to focus only without the shutter doing anything halfway pressed! I really wish I would have waited for the K-x instead, but oh well because I am already replacing my K-m with a GX-20. I wonder how the IQ will go up against the K-x against the K20D.

I have K200D and K-7. I usually try to use AF selection and not have to worry about recomposing, but I often do it anyways, especially with the K-7. The nice thing about the K200D was that the 'AF' button (once configured with custom option) was the 'OK' button, which was in the middle of the af point selectors (directional buttons). But on the K-7, the AF button is not in the middle of the direction buttons, so it's more difficult to switch AF points because I have to move my thumb further from the AF button. This wouldn't matter if I used half-shutter-press for AF, but I don't.

Of course, I use manual focus quite a bit with classic lenses, so it's a moot point for those.

Center and recompose for the most part; if I'm overly worried about skinny DOF on a still shot, I'll sometimes use focus selector + quick shift (if available).

I use to do this... center AF and recompose... now, AF selection most of the time and sometimes, full AF auto select.

1) Mods must be sleeping or all reading about K-x since this thread has been left for this long in the wrong place

2) I think I've answered in a similar thread earlier - if not even started one

3) Always center focus and recompose for me. I assume that if I was shooting landscapes with a tripod, choosing the point could come handy.
