Fuji MX 2700: 2.3 Mpixels. A cute little camera.

The Good: Great design!, compact, sharp lens, user interface.
The Bad: li-ion battery life was terrible, shutter lag.

The first one I used was one of those huge Sony Mavicas that took 3.5" disks, belonged to my parents. They still have it and it still works, although they've since bought digital compacts!

My first was probably the 1.3mp one attached to a Nokia phone, got some surprisingly good shots with that although it had some interesting approaches to exposure - you had to aim it slightly up or down to trick the sensor into metering properly if you wanted a decent result.

Fuji Finepix S3000 in 2003. 3.1 MP, slow to zoom, focus, recharge flash, release the flash, but took a nice picture. I still have it and it still works great.

Oly 5060W 5mp - amazing bridge p&s - bought it as it was the only p&s with a 27mm lens.

Amazingly sharp lens as well.

Pentax Optio 33LF, a gift when my daughter was born in 2004. It met needs at the time and introduced me to some of the benefits of digital, as I was skeptical of the technology (or ignorant) and loved my Canon AE-1. The Canon is long gone, traded it for my first Pentax prime to go with my K100D Super, but I still have the Optio and it is my daughter who usually uses it now.

The micromaxx does 352x288 bmp-files (full res pic!)

The Praktica has a 1.3mpix CMOS sensor and it's my P&S atm. No DSLR's allowed here:

It will be identical to Pentax KX or MX, except when you open the back you will insert a memory card instead of 35mm film.

HP Photosmart M415 4.5 megapixels. It came with a photosmart inkjet printer, and was marketed as being a camera coming with a free printer, but as far as I'm concerned, it was a printer that came with a free printer. I get great digital prints from the printer, but the photos from the camera, not so much.

Held off on digital cams until 2006 with a K100D.
Before then it was all film...
Loved that cam but was happy to move on with a K10D.

Ok i'll take a punt that nobody has heard of my first camera!

It was a Kyocera M410r

bought 2003 ish, used it up until march this year. Was like a bridge camera, 4mp fast lens and the best bit was the 3.3fps at full res continuously until the SD card was full... and 2.5 FPS with continuous focus, awsome for action sequences. Also had a 300,000 pixel EVF and took 4 x AA's! it feels like a toy after my k20d but it still works and has taken over 18000 shots. got some great shots with it... holds a place in my heart.

Shame Kyocera stopped making cameras!

full specs

* 4-megapixel effective CCD image sensor
* Image sizes: 2272x1704, 1600x1200, 1280x960, 1024x768, 640x480
* 10X Super Zoom (37-370mm) all-glass F2.8 lens
* Lens adapter for 52mm filters is included
* 300,000 pixel Eye level electronic viewfinder
* 1.5" color Dayfine LCD, transreflective TFT monitor
* Small, compact and lightweight
* Built in flash (auto, red-eye, forced, slow-sync and off)
* AVI Movies at 640x480 pixels, 15 or 30fps w/audio, length limited only by memory
* Program Auto, Aperture priority, Shutter priority and 4 scene modes
* High Speed 3.3 frames per second capture at full resolution
* ISO sensitivity of Auto, 100, 200, 400, 800
* User-adjustable color, contrast and sharpness
* Video output with user-selectable NTSC or PAL format
* Secure Digital (SD) card storage, 16MB included
* High-speed USB 2.0 port for Windows and Macintosh
* PictBridge direct-print compatible
* Powered by four AA type batteries

And a review here...

Sony P73

I got a Sony P73 brought out for me from Australia by an aunt in November 2004. It ran on two AA batteries, took the old long memory sticks (that looked like gum) and took decent video considering.

I'd no doubt still use it occasionally, but it got stolen out of my coat pocket at a function in town a couple of years ago.

Pics were 1280x900, start-up was quick, shutter lag was about 0.5 second, macro was great (as with many compacts) and the best part was, it had an M setting, so it was possible to do exposures up to 30 seconds... of course, when I replaced it with another Sony compact it was impossible to find one with any manual settings because they'd realised they could make that a 'feature'.

Great camera for it's day, and a great introduction to digital. Here's a sample pic:
