Both with Pentax K20D, SMC Takumar 55/1.8 and the flash was an AF200T,

Just remember that there is daylight, and there is daylight. When you're trying to do what amounts to overpowering the sun through the use of AA batteries the help afforded by passing clouds or an overcast sky can be important.

Mike,

Very nice shot!

Do you have some additional technical data like aperture, shutter speed, distance to subject, distance from subject to background, setting of the flash.

Thanks in advance.

Going from memory, I'm pretty sure the aperture was f16 and the shutter speed was almost certainly 1/180. Those two values are dictated by doing everything you can on the camera side of the equation to underexpose the ambient light as much as possible. That's as far down as that lens goes, and 1/180 is the max synch speed. Distances are as you can judge for yourself in the setup shot. Probably three feet or so from the flash to the subject. As you can see, in the direction of the shot background items were quite a bit more distant. I don't recall the flash setting exactly, but it was probably 1/2.
