Astrophotography with K10

I was messing around and thinking of trying to capture some stars with a trail on my K10. I can only keep the shutter open for 30 seconds. If I use bulb I have to hold the shutter (I thought I could set it to open on actuation and close on actuation but that doesn't seem to be the case). Sorry for the noob question. Help!!

This is something I was going to try with my new beastie, which is a K2000. Personally, I was going to try setting up with the tripod, go to bulb and see if the tripod holds stedy enough to take the picture I would like.

If that fails, I might try purchasing the remote control, to eliminate any wobble that my contact with the camera during exposure might create.

I, too, would be grateful for a little advice from the more experienced members of the forum. Mind you, being a noob is turning into quite a spirit of adventure for me.

Good luck with your star trails!

You must use either the remote or cable release for these kind of shots. Also lock the mirror up as that will also cause motion blur.

It will work wonderfully. 30 seconds is fine. In fact it may be too much for longer fl unless you have a tracker. Also, download Deep Sky Stacker. You will see the modern way to do astrophotography is with stacking of shorter exposures, not extremely long shutter opening. Search Astrophotography on this site. We have had a few discussions about it recently.
