Pentax, Lunch and .....Scoop?

All I can say is this after my lunch with Pentax...Who ever said that Pentax was bound to use the same sensor as Nikon or Sony

Ah...Life is full of surprises. Better later than not at all.

What's the size of this new (Samsung I guess, but maybe Fuji or Foveon) sensor? (I hope 1.5x or max 1.3/1.25x, don't need/want FF nor 1.1x)

I'm sure they won't bother if you tell us

Isn't it made by Kellogg's? I think they have found a way to make a 1.1 Kellogg's Corn Flake Sensor that doesn't go soggy even if it rains. Stays Crispy throughout the whole photo shoot

Kellogg's? Just heard (from a reliable contact in Pentax Japan ) it was made by LEGO... the first (and only) build-it-yourself sensor!

Technically, we knew they were not bound to Sony, since the 645D is/was supposed to use a Kodak sensor.

Interesting tidbit nonetheless... can't wait to know more !

?

Don't know much about Foveon sensors, but would love to see a Fuji top quality sensor in Pentax :-) could you imagine the jpg quality and if they had DNG I would be in pig heaven (why would I want to be in pig heaven ;-)

Maybe a Kodak sensor if they can keep noise down at high ISOs.

The high res build it yourself is from Lego, the low res is available from Lincoln Logs.

If Pentax wants to set itself apart from Nikon once and for all it almost has to use a better sensor than the standard Sony CCD. I would love to see them step up to a better technology and just sail right by C&N.

Poor what?

If you don't want to read insubstantial rumors, this was clearly not the thread for you.

Me, I enjoy it.

Well, I think what Benjikan wants to say is that Pentax comes with a Foveon sensor. We have word about this since the PMA in March.
But perhaps not even Pentax France knows this for sure ...

I enjoyed it too. I also think if you want to avoid noise at high ISO, you're gonna have to build your sensor out of K'NEX!

Here's what we need.....a new foveon sensor with 10MP for each layer. That would beat anything out there so far. Sigma doesn't have enough clout to compete with the N/C of the world, but Pentax/Hoya could. Pentax could once again be the king of SLR, Digital SLR this time around. Sony cannot build the Foveon just yet, I believe that the patent is good for 10 years. Foveon sensors are great technologically speaking, need further R & D, but no heavyweight camera makers have decided to adopt it. It's all about perception. Because the current foveon has three layers at less that 6MP each layer, it is perceived as being less effective, but in reality I think it will beat the Bayer pattern CCDs eventually. I am always amazed at how we were able to develop the Bayer pattern that actually interpotales B & W with filters and algorythms to render great color images. The Foveon makes more sense as each layer actually capture real color.

I don't know what I'm talking about..........but it should make some sense to someone, somewhere :-\

Educate me about the Foveon sensor.......someone. ??? Wouldn't it be a great sensor if they could make it at 10MP for each layer?
