Our camera club was started by two guys who ran an ad in the camera section of the classified ads of our local paper. It just said, "Anyone wishing to form a camera club, meet at this location on this date at this time." About 8 of us showed up for that first meeting, so they ran the ad a second time. The next month, 12-15 people showed up. We took a vote and decided to form a club. That was about 35 years ago. These days, in order to get the word out about our club, we place flyers at the entrance to the local camera store. We also had some business cards printed up that list our meeting place, days, and time. We try to keep our members stocked up with these cards so that they can hand them out to folks that they might meet out in public who are shooting at the zoo, parades, local gardens, etc...
