Peter Gowland: 1916-2010

Obituary from the LA Times:
Peter Gowland dies at 93; innovative glamour photographer - latimes.com
While not a household word, Peter Gowland was an important name in commercial and celebrity photography through much of the 20th century. His name was virtually synonymous with the specialized field of glamor photography. He was also known as the designer of unusual and special purpose photo gear that included the Gowlandflex 4x5 TLR and the extremely compact Gowland Pocket View Camera.

Hats off to a life well-lived! (Link to his Web site)

Steve

I think with the new title of this forum, this is as good a place as any. Gowland was one of the people who first got me interested in photography (through one of his books) many years ago. RIP.

I recall he also sold a TLR medium format camera, called the Gowlandflex.

I believe that there were a number of versions of the Gowlandflex over the years. Here is a link to the current Gowland camera page:
GOWLAND CAMERAS Gowlandflex, Gowland Aerial and Pocket View Cameras. Large Format 4x5 8x10 and Medium Format View Cameras from Peter Gowland

P.S. I have seen the 4x5 version and it is an impressive piece of equipment when viewed in person.
