"Mine" strictly speaking? I guess a basic Brownie would have to count. (If anyone in my town was wondering where the last of the 127 film went, that was me. )

Kind of a tossup between when my Dah's old Canon became 'mine' and my Miranda Sensorex kit.

I used cameras for a long time but do not remember the first one I bought. It just didn't matter that much.

I am still trying to get back to that attitude.

My first camera was a Pentax Km back in 1977...

Who bought it to me then just did buy a SMC M50mm 1.7, and man I do was pissed off as it was such a little lens compared to the camera itself - and not the proper full sized 50mm lens… stupid me…

You know what? The camera survived full working up to 1999 when it begun to stick the curtain of the shutter…
The lens is still full up the job… paired it with a K100ds and now it has done some photos with the white Kx… really few as the new modern lenses I have are what it takes.

So begun with Pentax… being lots of time out of it and happily did come back to Pentax...
…Seeing those red letters and doing better photos then people hanging with gear (2 to 5 times) costing more it’s a blast!

Pentax is fun!

Is that working for you? I've been trying the same thing and it seems like it is just getting worse.

My first camera was a Kodak Disc that my uncle gave to me, he had an extra. That was followed by a Vivitar 35mm P&S that was a birthday gift. Then a K1000.

My first digital camera was an Epson PhotoPC bought used on uBid. That was followed by a crappy Polaroid then a Kodak DX3600. When that gave out it was replaced with a Panasonic DMC-FZ5 and then a FZ8. They had that magical name of Leica on the lens. Still have the FZ5, sold the FZ8 when I bought the K-x.

Not yet -- like I said I am "still trying".

But I don't worry over gear as much as I once did. In fact I am happy shooting all day with one lens. If I "miss a shot" because I cannot change focal length I hardly notice. I'm too busy working on getting the other shots that I can capture.

With bodies it is even easier, since they all do a decent job. Improvements since the K10D have been mostly just features, not any real photographic tools. (Though, yes, I like some of the extra features too!)

My First Camera

First Camera was an Argus C3. I bought it when I was in the Air Force at the Base Exchange. It was a good first camera to start with. Got some good pictures with it. Pictures from my C3- My Wife in 1962 and our 1962 Corvair. Photos were shot on slide film and scanned with my HP scanner.

My first camera was an Olympus APS film camera. I used it a little in high school and thru pretty much all of college. Oh, if that camera could talk. I partied a lot in college. :lol

Followed that with an Olympus D600 digital, which I still use as a beater. I bought a Canon S5IS before a long motorcycle trip, and the bug hit pretty hard. Sold it, bought the K200D, and now have an LX3 as well.

I'll list three "first" cameras. . . .

1. first camera: an Ansco box camera, used in my single-digit years
2. first 35mm: a Kodak Retina Reflex S (my dad's)
3. first camera I bought myself: Fujica ST801

When it came time to buy my own camera, I considered the Canon FTb, the Spotmatic F, the Minolta SRT-101, and the Fujica ST801.

My brother-in-law had a Spotmatic or two, and I think I wanted something a little different, so I concentrated on the other three.

The Minolta just didn't feel right to me. The position of the DOF button just didn't work for me--I kept bumping into it. (Actually, nothing about the camera seemed right to me.)

I liked the Canon FTb, but I think it cost more and was lots heavier. Given all the mounts that I still can't keep straight, I'm glad I opted for something else.

The Fuji felt good to me, and still does. I'd handled a friend's ST701, which I liked. But the ST801 had lots of improvements.

The ads for the Fujica ST801 looked really nice, showing a landscape as seen through the viewfinder. But Fuji als promised better metering--not only did the 7 LEDs in the viewfinder let you know within half a stop what the exposure was, but Fjui had also moved from CdS to Silicon photocells. It wasn't long before everyone had dumped CdS.

And the EBC Fujinons are great lenses--compact and well-made, they offered great IQ and full-aperture metering.

So while I used my first two cameras because they were what was available, the Fujica ST801 was the first camera I chose to buy. And until I bought a digital, it was the only camera I'd bought new.

I still have that camera, along with the four EBC Fujinons I bought: the 55/1.8 that came with the camera, a 28/3.5, a 55/3.5 macro with tube, and a 100/2.8. So far I haven't let myself file off the tab for full aperture metering (it conflicts with the K-mount), but I'll bet they'd give great results on the K-7. The macro's extension tube doesn't have the tab, so at least I can use the macro from 1:2 to 1:1 without any modification.

The ST801 sure was a great first camera to buy.

Never had a C3, though a friend of mine did.

But our family did have a 1962 Corvair, a pale green one. Yours sure looks familiar!
