Me, I like machines, too. (I suppose this may be different from *wanting* these things. ) My *photography* is really in general something that is based on pretty limited gear doing pretty ordinary things, ...still I kind of delight in 'How do you make a 400/2.8 work on a blah or blah mount.' (I guess I like solving practical 'problems' or whatever, even if my heart, or work, doesn't exactly cry out for such things.)
I also like to say, 'Tools teach.' (You have to spend the time with them, though.)
I say, OK. Maybe someone's hobby is 'cameras.' (as opposed to 'making photographs,') ... Why not?
That pretty well describes me.
I have a collection of over 250 "antique" and some modern cameras and lenses.
For my K100d I have 3 lenses that cover the range from 12mm to 300mm and some primes from the K1000 and Practika stables and others that could be used with appropriate adapters.
Yet I find that I use my Quantaray 70 to 300mm for most of my pictures. And that is a lens that is not rated very highly by the mavens.
It covers most of my shooting needs, gives me acceptable quality and it just feels right in my hands.
My Pentax DA 12 to 24mm and my Tamron 28 to 80mm accompany me wherever I go just in case. But just in case doesn't occur very often.

P.S.
I have just ordered a Canon FD to Pentax K adaptor, something I had come to believe no longer existed
The surge of excitement and the anticipation of receiving this treasure that will enable me to use 30+ years of FD lenses and accessories is one of the great pleasures of my photographic endeavours.
Oh boy!
