Wash Out

This is taken at the blues fest in the green mode. I was wondering if there is anyway to get more color in the subject?

Here's a quick fix.

PP Steps:

- make a duplicate layer
- desaturate the duplicate layer
- transform the B&W duplicate layer to a negative image
- set the blend mode of the duplicate layer to overlay and the opacity to about 80%
- merge down
- use levels or curves to re-set the black point (make the curtain black)

With a little cloning work, you could add color on her knees and wrist if desired.

A nice tan?

No but really, the second edited version does look better, except for her knees, which kind of bother me. Have you just tried to increase the contrast and the blacks in the photo a little bit more?

You might just try using curves and pulling the mid tones down.

Tim's method works fine. And, as with most things Photoshop, you can get a similar result with an entirely different workflow.

1. Duplicate the layer
2. Switch mode to LAB (Image>Mode>Lab Color) - When given the option do not flatten the image.
3. Open Curves dialoge box (Image>Adjustments>Curves). Ignore Lightness (luminence). In both a and b channels move both the curve endpoint in about a quarter. Don't worry when the colors go weird during the process. They even out.

4. Adjust the opacity of the top layer to suit. I used 68%. Higher opacity = more color intensity.
5. Switch mode back to RGB Color.

This works any time you want to intensify colors. I made an action with all but step 4, which needs to be adjusted individually. One click, instant pop.

If I did this I might mask out her skin, or erase it in a layer, so that she doesn't start looking like a tomato.

A mask would be good or a quick, light desaturation with the sponge tool.
