RE: Tampa area.....
Don't know your schedule, but a couple of nice spots i've been to include>
Myakka State Park/Sarasota,,,,lots of birding and gators, some nice rivers spread to canoe.....
DeSoto Park....pretty neat,
Anna Maria Island offers a variety of subjects
Tampa itself provides a nice backdrop for some city shots
and a variety of op's in the harbor area
Suggest you invest in audborns florida wildlife book.....should contain a section on parks in the back, and there are many/some better than others
if you can get to the east coast (1-2 hrs away} you will find some superb reservations around Cape kennedy........enjoy, good luck

Central Oregon

Hmm...lots of choices around here...best 5 are probably (in no specific order)

1) Smith Rock State Park (world famous rock climbing destination)
2) Crater Lake National Park/Monument is about an hour or so south of here
3) The Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway...lots of lakes, rivers, mountains, etc.
4) McKenzie Pass Scenic Byway...waterfalls, mountains, old lava flows, etc.
5) Columbia River Gorge is about 2 hours north of here, waterfalls galore

Other than that, you've got Lake Billy Chinook/Lake Simtustus, Fort Rock, the Alvord Desert, the Deschutes River, and lots and lots of others.

I need to do a road trip again ... since i met my wife ... all that went by the wayside.

Although ... heading inland hopefully this weekend to Mudgee for a quick break again ... will bring the camera along to get some shots ... all depends on the weather I guess.

I live near Harpers Ferry WV

Prime shooting locations near me include

Harpers Ferry National Park
Antietam National Battlefield

Across the Potomac River from Harpers Ferry is Maryland Heights. There is a rocky outcropping you can reach by way of a fairly strenous hiking trail, and the view of Harpers Ferry and the surrounding area will take your breath away, especially in the fall.

Within an hour to an hour and a half's drive of Harpers Ferry are

Washington DC
Gettysburg National Military Park
Manassas National Battlefield
Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Mountains

Within about a three hour drive are Colonial Williamsburg and additional Civil War Battlefields, including Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville.

Others may disagree (and probably will) but if you love American History and photography, I don't know that there is a better place to live than where I do.

Being in Maritime Canada there are lots of places to shoot here.
Nova Scotia;
Halifax and it's historical sites (Citadel hill and the fort, historic properties, anywhere on the waterfront)
Peggy's cove village and the lighthouse
Anywhere along the South Shore area
Bay of Fundy (worlds highest tides and interesting rock formations)
Cabot trail highlands (something like the Smokey mountains with the ocean added) in Cape Breton particularly in the fall.
Fortress Louisbourg a working/living fort/village from the 1700's
and lots more in NS.

Prince Edward Island
Wonderful rural farming and seascapes all over the island. Too many places to mention
Anne of Green Gables and Cavendish area.
Lighthouses, beaches and fishing villages everywhere

New Brunswick
Fundy national park
anywhere along the Acadian shore all the way up the East coast.
Whale watching on the Bay of Fundy (NS as well)
Grand falls (awesome in spring with the runoff) which is the highest falls east of Niagra

Newfoundland.
A gem for the nature and landscape shooter. Incredible seascapes, fishing villages, mountain views and fiords (west coast).
Historic Saint John's.
Cape Spear and the lighthouse with rocky cliffs (200+ foot drop straight down to the North Atlantic with icebergs in the background.
Icebergs close enough to the shore to get great images.
Moose, Moose, Moose oh and did I say Moose??? Plus Caribou

These are only a few options in these areas and I've left out a lot of great sites to take the camera.

For Tampa - Fort DeSoto - North Beach, East Beach, Sunshine Skyway Bridge, Honeymoon Island / Caladesi Island are all good. Tarpon Springs is interesting (Sponge Docks - Greek Community) sun line cruises do an excellent 2 hour Gulf Sunset Cruise for about $15 - on a good day you'll not only get incredible sunset views over the Gulf but get to see Dolphins around the boat as well. As teh other poster said - a very photogenic city - day & night.

I would have to add to the couple of Aussie additions:
The Great Ocean Road, Victoria Australia, is a must. Top ocean photography.
Some very wild weather and seas at times all adds to the photo challenge.

My daughter and family live in Warnambool, on the G.O.Road so boy that comes in handy for a holiday. About 450 miles distance from my home location.
