I only ever use it when talking to other photographers, and only when analyzing pictures. It's not something I randomly toss out in normal conversation.
Really, I don't understand the hostility some people seem to be showing to the creation of new technical terms by borrowing from another language with restricted signification. The English language has been doing this for centuries; it allows us a certain je ne sais quoi, does it not?

OTOH, I probably spent too much time in grad school, where people were doing this for a living. Ah, lebensweld. Oh, Aufhebung. Ah, pitié.

In any event, I do use the term bokeh in conversation, e.g. with my brother or my mother. With my mother would say "the quality of the out of focus areas. Or bokeh, as the kids call it." :-)

Yeah, I guess I still have a high tolerance for pretension.

That's a nice explanation. I guess that's a neat thing about Pentax, people can call their products what they want to. I've always called my K2 DMD "K2 Diamond" because I think it sounds neater than K2 D.M.D.

In true American Redneck fashion, I call it "bokey".

and what do you call a photographer who specialises in panoramas, and uses all the special kit available for that , worries about nodal distances etc.?
a panoramerist?

A panhandler.

I do that and prefer to call it ultra widescape or broadscape for some kinky reason - a demented concatenation of mega-wide angle/vision and land/sea-scape.

And it's not "Nodal" point, it's Entrance Pupil dammit!

As a girl I once knew said "it's not what you call it but how you use it"
