Pentax introduces world’s first electronic rifle scope: One touch of a button activat

News update from the official Pentax website:

GOLDEN, CO. (May 3, 2010)….PENTAX Imaging Company’s Sport Optics Division enters the electronic age with the introduction of the PENTAX ULTIMATE ZOOM ™ Rifle Scope. This latest addition to the extensive line of PENTAX precision rifle scopes features a built-in battery-powered, low-noise zooming motor that is activated by the touch of a button.
"Along with legendary PENTAX optics and durable construction, the new ULTIMATE ZOOM Rifle Scope offers a single key advantage over traditional rifle scopes," said John Carlson, Senior Manager of Sales and Marketing, PENTAX Imaging Company. "For the first time, users may automatically zoom within a full range of 3X to 15X without ever removing their grip on the rifle or shifting their focus from the eyepiece."
With the PENTAX ULTIMATE ZOOM, the mission of staying on track and on target in the field has reached an entirely new dimension since every other variable power rifle scope in the marketplace zooms manually by rotating an external zoom ring. This rifle scope helps ensure that users never lose their point of aim through the scope.
Following in the PENTAX tradition of solid and dependable riflescopes, the ULTIMATE ZOOM features durable, seamless 1-piece tube construction and superb fully multi-coated optics with PentaxBright® technology for outstanding sharpness and clarity. The PENTAX ULTIMATE ZOOM is waterproof and nitrogen-filled to prevent fogging and to maintain clarity even in the most demanding weather conditions. The scope features a 30mm tube for optimum strength and adjustment range and a 50mm adjustable objective for parallax correction from infinity to as close as 10 yards. The ULTIMATE ZOOM features a full diopter adjustment range for a sharply-focused reticle, and its long eye relief provides viewing comfort and a margin of safety.
The PENTAX ULTIMATE ZOOM will be available May 1st for $349.00 from the or select dealers. Like all PENTAX current sport optics products, the ULTIMATE ZOOM features the PENTAX Lifetime Worry-Free Warranty.

I hope they don't use the same motor for zooming here as they use for SDM focus lenses.

Why a double .308? I understand with something like an H&H .375 or .458 WM.

"I hope they don't use the same motor for zooming here as they use for SDM focus lenses."

- I'll second that

"Why a double .308? I understand with something like an H&H .375 or .458 WM."

So I can use standard Winchester .308 rounds, which are excellent for long range work. while they are not designed for double rifles, mine has been modified to be able to use them optimally. Besides double rifles have the option of firing both barrels simultaneously which means you have the ability to double the punch you can deliver. Rarely do us aussies ever have to defend ourselves against anything as large as a bear. I use mine mostly for foxes, wild pigs, rabbits, and the occasional bird too ( I'm the best shot in my family, and not only with a camera;-)
