PENTAX ANNOUNCES K-r DIGITAL SLR AND NEW 35MM LENS

35mm is nice but I was hoping it will be something closer to 30mm, any way if it is anything like what I expect performencewise than I will probably get one.

Now Pentax, it's time to work on those cheap 55mm and 90mm primes

I'm amazed that people are judging lenses based purely on specs without some sample images to back things up. Bokeh, colour reproduction, sharpness (at borders, wide open), microcontrast. Yes facts are facts and it's a bit slower than the competition, but this lens could blow the competition out of the water in terms of IQ for all we know.

The new improved K-r DSLR is welcome, and amateurs + enthusiasts should like this camera.
But I am afraid the price point may move a lot these people to the CANIKONS.
I remember to have bought my K20D with the improved AL II Kit lens for $ 770 from B&H. With all its faults this camera remains an awesome buy.
As for the new 35mm f2.4 Lens with a PLASTIC MOUNT, I feel it is very much overpriced (this Forum indicates over $ 200) - Gentlemen, compare this to the 18-55 AL II Kit Lens which is much more complicated to manufacture, has a METAL MOUNT and costed only $ 109 brand new (in some deals even lesser).
I hope Pentax is listening to this, that too from a man who has been an Advisor in one of the worlds biggest manufacturing company, and can appreciate manufacturing costs + pricing.

At 35mm, the 18-55 is probably f4. And I'm sure the 35 will show the kit lens the door when it comes to IQ.

I think the DA 40 is proof that God loves Pentaxians. I'm not sure why I'd buy the 35 when the 40 is available.

Unsettlingly, the pricing of the K-r makes me fear the MSRP of the K-5 will be correspondingly higher, to avoid the K-5 eating from the K-r's sales numbers.

Are the sensor specs known yet? Is this a Sony sensor, maybe similar to the NEX/A33/A55 sensor type?

(Don't quote me, I'm not confirming rumors. I'm only asking for more info).

That K20D you bought at $770 was, I believe, $1300 when it was released. Then again, part of the reason it dropped so low was that it didn't sell well due to consumers feeling it was too close to the K10D for such a price. So you may have a point here, except if history repeats itself, the K-r price will drop like crazy.

It's almost likely to be a Sony sensor. It might be the same one as on the K-x or a new generation.

Because of the K-r? Probably not that many, relative to the K20D and K100D's likely to be posted to the marketplace. For the record, I'll be happy to unload one of those little guys cheap off anyone willing

I was going over some of my K10D photos I took last year. I am still impressed with it, and I can still take better shots with it than my K-x under 800 ISO!
