Marc Newson-Designed PENTAX K-01 Interchangeable Lens Camera Selected For Prestigious

News update from the official Pentax website:

Denver, CO – PENTAX RICOH IMAGING AMERICAS CORPORATION is pleased to announce that the PENTAX K-01 interchangeable lens camera , designed by world-renowned industrial designer Marc Newson and launched in March 2012, has been selected as a Product Design 2012 winner at this year’s prestigious red dot design awards in Germany.

Sponsored by the Nordrhein Westfalen Design Center in Germany, the red dot design awards are one of the world’s most prestigious design awards. Each year, products brought to market over the previous two years are judged on nine different design criteria, including degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, durability and ecological compatibility. The PENTAX K-01 was selected from more than 4,500 applicants from 58 countries as a Product Design winner in the "Entertainment Technology and Cameras" category.

This is actually quite a big deal, but I personally would take an Italian or Scandanavian design award over a German one (ducks) :P
Just kidding after all Germany built the Gullwing Mercedes.

On another note after initially liking the white one I think I prefer the black with silver trim now

i think this is deserved. The only thing that the k-01 is missing for its intended user group (design interested fashionable people who don't know/care about viewfinders (they are too try hard) or probably the green button) is a line of tiny lenses. and they had ruddy well better come at photokina!

This is good news. It would be nice if this news were published in the front page of the forums (where you have the BH opening, 21 LTD review etc).

Well deserved and I'm not surprised. Once you move outside the narrow box most people put camera in this was definitely an interesting product that apparently has appeal outside our limited community
