What's a backlit 16mp sensor? Is it any different than the 16mp sensor on the K-5?

It's a Q sized sensor. I wonder if this will be the sensor for the next iteration of the Q.

Did not see that one coming. Almost mistook it for a DSLR. Articulated LCD makes me hopeful of seeing it in the K-5 successor.

It is a Q-sized sensor, but "backlit" doesn't mean "Q-sized", it means backlit. Backlit does help you get all those pixels in there though. Why aren't all sensors backlit at this point? (Why weren't they always?) Is it more expensive to make?

Perhaps the biggest surprise is the $279 price. Similar Panasonic cameras are $350.

Is this the sensor we will see in K5 replacement as per this thread https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-news-rumors/196401-k-5-successor-updates.html

K-5 Successor Updates
Here are quotes from the other forum in Japan posted by an anonymous who is naming himself a sales rep of Pentax.
Even though he has never leaked anything clear but only abstract info, it’s been always turned out true once new models were launched in the past.

1a. Miniaturization of interconnection process
1b. Larger microlens for the vaster area available for light capture.
2. They took long time to tweak a newly-designed 16MP imager without LPF
3. They spent a lot of time to tweak SAFOX X

Not a chance, this is a tiny point and shoot sensor. But if the K-5 replacement keeps a 16MP sensor, expect to see the same sensor as in the NEX-6. Which would mean, phase detection AF pixels. Oh I love those rumours

No way. It's too small.

This camera seems to be going after the Lumix DMC market -- I see quite a lot of those around...

The main part I'm interested in is the zoom ring. Are zoom rings standard for bridge cameras? I see some fuji's with them, but the panasonics don't. I'd enjoy a zoom ring over power zoom.

So no video auto focus or yes?? And what is extended movie clips?

Full HD-standard movie recording for extended recording of high-quality movies
The X-5 features a Full HD movie recording function employing the h.264 recording format. The user can capture high quality, extended movie clips (1920 x 1080 pixels at a 16:9 aspect ratio) at a frame rate of 30 frames per second. The camera also offers creative movie playback features, such as High-speed Movie mode for slow-motion playback and Time-lapse Movie mode for fast-forward playback, and features a micro-HDMI terminal (Type D) for the output of recorded movies and sound to external devices.
