What do you think a collapsable 18-50mm is??? You press that button on the zoom lens and it extends as you move towards 55? maybe that is also some sort of zoom lock?

And I really like the look of the new K (70?)

If I were to bet, it'd be like the Sony collapsible zoom lenses: 16-50mm Retractable Zoom Lens - SELP1650 Review - Sony US

When you don't want to use the lens, you twist it to the lock position where it collapses fully. When you want to use it, you hold the button and twist it to the normal position where it extends out a little bit. From there, it performs like the normal 18-55 kit lens where it is shortest at 35mm or something like that.

It's not a power (zoom) lens. It has a manual collapsing mechanism, just like the Sony mentioned (and few other lenses)

It looks like it (the 18-50) has an aperture ring. Could it be that they have uncrippled the mount?

It most likely does not. It has the same aperture info and lens mount grip as the DA 20-40.

Yes, now I see it clearer.
