Interesting results, somewhat expected though.

I seldom see these failed cameras passing on ebay for as little as 40 EUR. So I got myself a K-30 (9000 clicks) and a k500 (1900 clicks). K-30 I am using for testing with diy lenses and m42 and k500 now works normally after a couple of weeks being on the "dark side". I also have a k-30 that works normally, which I bought used with some other faults last year.

If you play a lot with adapted and m42 glass, these faulty bodies give a lot of bang per buck.

"To put things in perspective, our records show that we have at least 1799 K-50 owners and 2659 K-30 owners on the forum, so overall survey participation was at most 10% of our user base. As very few owners responded from outside the forum, undercoverage was a second source of bias. If more than a third of all K-30 bodies in existence had failed by now, we would hear much more about this issue!"

That is assuming they all knew about the survey and, with that assumption made, would care to participate in the survey. You set Pentax up to consider their hardware flaws then turn around and let them off the hook.

I think the fact that there is a single failure point so largely expressed is alarming to those products. That speaks of a flaw in that particular system. Especially when we do not read of failures in that same aperture block in K-5/K-5II/K-3/K-3II.

I don't remember if I saw the survey or not ... hmmm!

I gave my K-30 to my dad with 30k shutter actuations on it and the aperture block was beginning to fail. He returned the camera to me with 43k clicks on it and every shot fails now. The camera is useless except for completely manual lenses. A used K-30 on eBay is about $250-ish. I don't think it's worth repairing the body unless the repair is like $20-$30. Just get a different body. Upgrade if you must!
