It is not “new” - just the K-70 rewarmed.

I guess the K20D wasn't new when it was released, or the K200D, K-5, K-5 ii, K-3, or the K-3 ii.

That’s not new from Pentax - I remember all the permutations the K-r and other cameras were available in. Those were limited releases as well.

I meant the new camera, not the variants

Kind of surprised they went with a new moniker instead of calling it the K-70 mk II.

I see. I didn’t expect to see a new entry-level model from them either. I expected the K-70 would just be discontinued and not have a successor.

Seems like new lcd & updated sw (satori profiles etc..), new battery charger.
Image sensor and processor identical?
Same body, about 5gr weight difference..

Did I miss something?

The good news is that the entry level body is refreshed and benefits from new sw ...

I expected a true K-70ii or K-90.
That is OK - I originally expected my KP to be my last camera body.
Once I found that it wasn’t focusing as fast as I wanted to catch some moving objects, I figured that it wasn’t anything that a new processor couldn’t fix, but I’ll just save money and work on my technique.

I kind of felt Pentax wouldn’t expect someone to jump directly to a flagship model.

Ricoh posted an English version of the introductory video posted last week. The on-screen captions are in English and Shigeru Wakashiro's comments in English subtitles (enable CC)

Text of Subtitles (captured direct from the video):
At PENTAX, we don't intentionally remove features or functions
from our standard-class models
just to tempt our users to purchase higher-class models
That's why we equip the PENTAX KF
with an optical viewfinder featuring a glass pentaprism

We applied weather-resistant construction,
even in the lenses included in the kits,
to improve their durability and dependability during shooting in the rain

We also incorporated the double e-dial system and
upgraded custom-shooting functions

We've designed this standard-class model
so it will remain a joy to use over many years
To symbolize the joy of photography using the optical viewfinder,
and the fun of active outdoor shooting in the field
we named this standard-class model PENTAX KF,
by applying the initial letter of two key words: Finder and Field
