Flower - First try
Lens: DA 70 Camera: K-x ISO: 200 Aperture: F2.4

First attempt at shooting a flower. How does this look?

Just found out what this is. This is a Daylily. The reason it is called a Daylily is because each flower only lasts for one day. There are 4-5 flowers on each tall stalk

That's a very good composition! If this is your first macro, then wow, a great start for sure! Fantastic color, too. This shot is a winner as-is.

Well thanks Adam. I wouldn't say it's a macro...the flower was quite large actually...probably almost the size of a baseball. You don't think the DOF is too narrow? That's what I was wondering about mostly because I shot it at F2.4 and was pretty much at the minimum focus distance that the DA 70 has.

This is also a crop. I took off a bunch of dead space around the outside. I cropped it so that the stem of the flower led to roughly the center of the frame. I hope that was the best thing to do.

Real nice first try.
I might have trimmed a bit more off the right side, but it's nice as is.
The DOF is fine on this.
You can always bracket a few shots to get what you want.
Was this hand held? I don't see a shutter speed listed.

Yes this was handheld. I wasn't sure of the shutter speed and didn't want to look it up...but now that I am thinking about it I'm looking and shutter speed was 1/125

Hey Tim,
An appealing result.
The limiting factor for you in doing macro work is your minimum focusing distance with the DA 70.
But if you don't mind cropping, you can use the DA 70 for the job, with the hint of shooting your subject at a plane as perpendicular to the lens as possible and stopping down rather than opening up wide in order to retain more detail within your subject.
