Per, I'm not sure what critique you'd be after here, however my impression of this image is that it is a snapshot of a couple of kids - not much more than that.

The background is busy, bright and distracting. Beyond this there isn't much to say.

Looks like they are in shadow, with the foreground much darker than the background.

You are right, K-9, and the back light is fierce tropical light, with a thinly overcast sky.
They were not posing for me, so I guess you can call it a snapshot.
Can I invite you to look at some of the few photos I have put in my recently started album?

think about what you're shooting here- it's 2 kids, and an ipod, that's all you need to show- the kids sharing the ipod

(forgive my crude drawing, it's 4:30 am!)- but i think this is the shot you could/should have got from this situation (from behind, close crop of the 2 boys and the earphones, ipod OOF in the background)

photography is not a passive hobby, you have to get in there have the confidence to get the shot you want, you have to move or you get your subject to move, good shots are rarely the obvious ones

Thanks Clark, I like your critique. It has a positive suggestion with it.
