I've often seen people take close ups of everyday objects and think they've done a fantastic job. I've never been able to really see that sort of thing myself. Thought I'd give it a try yesterday. How did I do? C&C appreciated.

Technically, this is a good shot, with a sharp focal point and effective OOF area. It would be better if the bokeh were just a tiny bit smoother, but I guess that depends upon the lens.

The main issue I see with this shot is the fact that it's begging to be a vertical, but is currently a horizontal! Good attempt nevertheless, though! Photos like these can be very interesting. You might want to check out our 'Rust' photo contest poll , which had a lot of good ones

great colors, the green background just goes so well
i agree with Adam's observation, vertical!
as a complete amateur i happen to enjoy this subject matter, that't why
i'd play with focus position a bit, all those ridges

I enjoy the photo.
I don't mind the horizontal orientation.
I find the bright object at upper left to be distracting. Perhaps you have an image which was shot from a position that's more to your right.
Best wishes — and I'd enjoy seeing future work, be it of rust or other subjects.
