Waterfall Attempt #2
Lens: Sigma 18-50mm Camera: Pentax k100d Super Photo Location: Dusmuir, CA

Here is my second attempt at waterfall photography. This is Mossbrae Falls near Dunsmuir, CA. I think these turned out better than my last waterfall pictures did, but I wanted to hear your opinions. What could I have done better? Thanks.

- Josh

I think the first shot is very successful in all aspects, but the second and third don't strike me as being that good for some reason- maybe it's the composition.

In any case, very well done with the first! 5/5

Thanks for the reply Adam. The first one is my favorite as well. Do you have any suggestions on how to make the other two better? Maybe just experimenting with better compositions?

#2 lacks context and looks like a generic photograph of a waterfall.
#3 to me, suffers from imbalance. The water in the foreground creates a sense of motion towards the right but it leads out of the frame. It also distracts my attention away from the waterfall.
#1 is really nice and works for me because the orientation gives more context to the flow of the water in the foreground and the waterfall on the right creates the balance that was missing from the third photograph.

Just my uneducated 2 cents.

I was there about 6 weeks ago. You used a longer shutter speed though. I Like 1 and 3 best.

I would have used a polarizer on the first one to bring out more of the "white" in the water. The shot by specialK shows that there are more "falls" than what shows in your shots.

Thank you all for your comments. I really appreciate them. Mapleneckblues, thanks for the tips for the 2nd and 3rd pictures. I understand what you said and appreciate the help. Bdery, I kind of liked the ,I guess, "blue" tint to the water. That's just my personal opinion though. I also didn't include more of falls because I wanted to focus on just this smaller part. Thanks again everyone for you comments.
