Lens: 500mm Mirror Camera: K-x Photo Location: Lake Poway ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/125s Aperture: F5.6

My original reason for taking the image was the reflected light. I felt the image was more interesting as a rotated abstract than as an upright still. Is this rotation too contrived/cheesy, or does it accomplish the intent? Also, any technique feedback regarding image capture and post processing would be greatly appreciated. (500mm f/6.3 ISO100 1/125 sec)

It took me a few seconds to figure out what I was looking at, but I think this might work as an abstract in the eyes of some. For me, however, it's a bit too busy and confusing as-is. Creative, though!

It is pretty abstract to start with. Turning it sort of forces the issue, and makes me say "why?". Although you've answered why, I still ask it :-).

I think it would be better without the rotation. Not sure I like the bolt hole without the bolt in it - it's the first thing I noticed.

seems like a stronger shot rotated this way, and pretty mundane right side up
i'd do a tighter crop
there is too much grey in the bottom right, which overpowers the current composition
i say the fence can go too, keep the water tho, so the black square lands off center

Thanks for the constructive tips. I tried various combinations of cropping and alignment, and ended with the image below. Eliminating the chainlink feels like it got rid of some of the clutter. I'm going to pay careful attention to balance between simplicity and "greeblies" in the future. Thanks again!

I like both the horizontal and the vertical presentations.
For me, the horizontal is more thought-provoking. I don't consider it contrived or cheesy.
Best wishes,
Stu
