B-25 Black and White
Lens: Sigma 70-300mm Camera: Pentax k100d Super Photo Location: Redding, CA ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/125s Aperture: F27

This is a picture from a local airshow a couple years ago. I've lately been really interested in black and white photography and have been working on converting some in photoshop. I'm not sure if the results I got are good or not. What do you guys think? Thanks.

There is quite a bit of haloing around the plane. The tone of the plane blends right into the sky. I think color might work better.

Textures are there, but contrast seems to have been dulled out by the PP.
Avoid overdoing the highlights/shadow effect and this one might come out alright.

Thanks for the tips. This was my first black and white conversion so I didn't really know what I was doing.

This almost looks like a solarized B&W negative. What software are you using for the conversion?

I like it except for the sharpening glow around the airplane.

That would look truly awesome on a Christmas/Greeting/Birthday Card.

The halo is a bit much - is it from HDR-esque processing? It looks more like the Edge Mask of a picture than an actual image.

Like I say, I would be impressed if this image was on a greeting card I received. Looks like quite a good original.

The plane is neat and interesting to look at. I agree about the halo - it looks like the plane is flying through the Bermuda Triangle.

Here is a thought ... post the original as a b&w/postprocess conversion challenge in the challenge forum (if you don't mind, of course) to see the different ways of post processing.
Then, pick your favourite.

Nice shot, btw.

Not really into the technical stuff....that is an awesome plane....& I think that black/white is appropriate....adds a "WW11" atmosphere to the shot. I like it.
Cheers, Pickles.

Sorry, I hadn;t realized this thread had more posts! Thanks for your comments. I was going for a more, I don't know, "old" feel to the photograph. I agree it was a over done, though. Here's another version.

Is that the J Variant? That's some serious forward firepower!

Yea the 2nd revision looks alot more convincing.

Yes, it's the "Pacific Prowler" which is a J variant. Here's a link with some more info on it if you're interested.

That second version is so much better than the first. The first was almost all midtones, and that is the last thing you want in a B&W photo. In B&W, the only thing you have to make a photo is contrast. Good job.
