My Wife
Lens: Sigma 28-80 Camera: k200d ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/150s Aperture: F8

I have been working on lighting recently. I shot this photo of my wife tonight with one off camera flash. What does the forum think? I am really happy with the texture of the photo. I did do some post production on the photo. Please comment on anything you think could be improved upon.

I did shoot this photo with alot of shadow on purpose....

Thanks Andrew

A very intense shot- I don't think the shadow is distracting at all.

it is a feeling piece for sure... and I like the feel... for me... I would like to see the detail in the iris... I can see the pores, lash, etc... I want to see the iris... something like this taken by Lauren from a different site... I just saw hers today... and I think adding that detail of the iris will add the coup de grace to make this good image great...

Well, technically speaking, the "hot spot" her forehead is devoid of any detail. Not a good thing, just be careful with area contrast & exposure.

about iris detail, like the pic above, that ain't happening using speed light or studio light with minimal modeling lamps.

It's all about lighting.
Whilst I get the concept of drama intended here, I agree that it is more compelling with lighting focused on accentuating the eyes and eyebrow detail, and less on the freckles and skin pores.

thanks for all the comments.... I will think more about the eyes and getting more detail there. I do think that having the iris visible would have been nice even though i like the darkness in the eye too. Overall I like the shot but i do agree it could be improved. Thanks again for the comments and please keep them coming! Andrew
