Granite Skeleton
Lens: Nikkor-E 50 1.8 Camera: Nikon FG Photo Location: Settler's Cemetery, Charlotte, NC ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/250s Aperture: F4

This is an image that was taken on 4x5, but also exists on 35mm for ease of use. I simply shot the 35mm image beside the 4x5 camera, so it isn't an exact copy.

I would love to have a critique on this image: what works, what doesn't, subject matter, interest, any comments on contrast, image quality, etc. are all appreciated.

Thanks!

It's an abstract shot that's sort of in between that and something more tangible. Meaning, I can't quite tell what it is if you don't tell me. I think the lighting in the central part of the subject is very poor, leaving us no details or texture. The overall shot has too many dark areas.

If you were trying to just get this foreground sculpture in the shot, dip down even lower to crop out the background, which is distracting to an already poor composition. Maybe get some sky behind it, to make it stand out.

One more note: the objects looks slightly tilted.

K-9: I appreciate your remarks. You're definitely right, it's too dark. I think a lot of that happened when I changed the gamma of the scan. I will scan the actual print from 4x5 instead of the scan of the 35mm film tonight and post it. The print has much better tonal range and better composition.

I appreciate your critique.

Here is the 4x5 print, printed on 11x14 paper, toned in Sepia.

I had to scan it in 2 sections so there may be a seam running through it (I couldn't find one if there is).

Thoughts?
