Flower Power
Lens: SMC Pentax F-Zoom 28-80 Camera: K10d Photo Location: Niigata, Japan

I thought this would make an interesting photo. I tried playing with the colors and levels but this is the only one I liked. Still very new at Photoshop. Also this was also my 1st day with a SLR.

The first question I ask myself when setting up a shot is: what is the subject? Once I decide that, then the next question is: how do I best frame the subject? This happens very quickly in succession. I do not see the sofa adding anything to the shot unless your intent was to juxtapose the flower against the sofa. If your subject was the flower, then I would just make it the sole contents of the image.

I thought the sofa added character and texture to the image. The lines of the leather stitching and curved legs.

They might if the flower were shown On the sofa or a table or stand next to it. As it is, it's a shot of a flower on the ground next to a piece of furniture.

No sofa, or perhaps a part of it. If you cropped away the upper 40% of the photo that might help.

The flower looks to be out of focus. Since that's the main subject it must be tack sharp.

I probably wouldn't have the flower and sofa overlapping at all, and I would try to make the flower bigger and sharper in the field of view. It does seem like a set-up with possibility.
