puppy portrait
Lens: smc-a 50mm 1.7 Camera: k-x Photo Location: my house ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/180s Aperture: F8 

CC plz. trying out my new umbrella and triggers. dog doesnt like to stay still. had to bait him with a bone to stay still for 2 seconds. umbrella is to camera right @ 1/16th i think zoomed to 85mm. flash used is a af360.

The paw in sharp focus catches attention but there is nothing much to see there, I think a tighter crop would work better.

Looks like a really good boy.

I'd like to see the nose in focus. You used f 8 so I'm not sure why it isn't. I think this because I have literally hundreds of shots of of my own 'kids' that would be better if the nose was in focus. Ditto the crop. I do love the -A 50mm 1.7.

It's been back-focused. f/8 has surprisingly thin depth of field with close focusing.
It may have needed f/11-16 and nailing focus right on the eyes.

Focus is behind, but I like the comp. Focus on the eyes and don't crop. You might try up to f-11, but in this kind of light, you're likely to suffer diffraction.
