Riding for the Last Fence
Lens: 18-55 Camera: K100 Photo Location: Lexington Ky

OK I put this one in for the PEG and was turned down by some and one that liked it, I like the angle and the in your face shot. This is a tough sport on the horse and rider, and I was trying to show it. So go ahead and let me have it I will be doing some more shots for a local show barn in the upcoming season and need the tips Thanks for looking.

It's a nice sharp and well-rendered image.
The issue to me is not what's wrong with it, but rather what it is.
The subject matter is reasonably commonplace, so it would require something special about the lighting, action, dynamism, pose to make the image more interesting.
There is a cluttered background, with uncomplementary elements (such as the two cars and person standing beside them) that hampers the impact of the subject.
The diagonal horizon is a reasonable arrangement but doesn't seem to add to the style of the image.

Do you think if I blurred the background more maybe even darkened it some it would pull it out more. A lot of the people I shoot for have always been very happy with the shots I've done but i have yet to start playing much with PP. Thanks for explaining . . .

Try panning to blur the background while getting the complete horse and rider in action. It takes practice. Good luck.
