Here is the histogram. I'm not quite sure what to make of it. It looks to me as though there may be very minimal blown highlights? If anyone has a moment to help me interpret it, I would appreciate it.

Thanks again for all your kind words and feedback.
A histogram of the egret in the photo shown above shows no blown highlights. I grabbed a rectangular selection around the egret and used ImageJ's histogram function to analyze the brightness distribution.

Exceptional timing on the shutter trip! There is a great sense of anticipation as the bird is just about to drop onto the water. Well done!

I've posted an album with the rest of the series. Can anyone help me figure out how to change the order of the photos in the alubm?

I think that is only one way to do that; you have to delete and upload the photos again in the correspondent order.

Nice set BTW.

I actually tried that, but no luck. No matter the order I upload them in, they seem to order the way they are now. Not a big deal.

Well done, nicely composed, beautiful subject. Might I suggest conversion to black and white and a bump in contrast? I don't think color gives anything to the picture

Yes it looks like you have slightly blown highlights, if you shot this in RAW try opening it up in the Photoshop raw converter turn on the highlight clipping warning and use the exposure and recovery sliders to see what you can get back. for a more detailed tutorial on this check out the second tutorial at this site http://www.amatteroflight.com/tutorials.html and don’t forget to repost the image and let us know how you go because otherwise its a great shot.

I'm afraid I don't have photoshop, but I've done a bit of work on the photo and this is what I've come up with. Any feedback is appreciated.

I know blown highlight are supposed to be bad, evil, sinful things, but I have to say that there are cases where I prefer it like that.

Anything blown out here is just the very brightest bits of very white feathers, and to me it emphasises the brilliant brightness of the bird.

It could be just my shortcomings as a photographer speaking, or my personal bad taste (or my monitor being particularly good at rendering whites?), but I wouldn't want this egret any other way.

Love the blue and brown soft-coloured water too, and the bright yellow eye and bill, so I'm not in favour of the B&W either.

In fact, I can't think of any more constructive comment than this: Great shot!
