I like the subject and think you would have been happier with the shot (and less noise to deal with) by dropping both the iso and aperture a full stop thus keeping the same shutter speed. And hey, there are never enough Eagle shots, especially on the wing like yours. Please keep it up.

Had previously posted the photo without PP. This with noise reduction.

Mannnnn... I'd be over the moon just to see this beauty in my sky, let alone get a picture. Gorgeous blue sky and amazing wing span. Maybe this bird will grace you with another appearance and you can try to get a few more pictures with different settings.

I love the feel of height and flight in this image! Lucky you!!

A Convocation or Aerie or Kettle of Eagles regularly stop here in the Annapolis Valley to feed and rest in their Spring return from the South on their way to Cape Breton and elsewhere. The farmers feed them dead chicken. A lot of people and photographers gather to the sites every year. It is an attraction and there are various festivities, including breakfasts, lunch and parties with live music. We are quite lucky. Various Hawks etc. also come to get the food.

When in the spring does this take place? I have always wanted to travel out east and timing it with this festival would be perfect!

I like the idea of this shot but it is way too grainy and the image is out of focus. There also seems to be a halo around the wings. Could that be a result of over-sharpening?
Keep in mind that these comments come from someone who has never managed a decent BIF.

ISO 1600 on the K10D is just asking for trouble!
I'd have chosen f/8 and ISO 400, which would have given you a decent shutter speed of 1/500sec.
The image is not OOF, but rather lacking clarity and microcontrast, mainly due to the reduced quality at the chosen ISO - plus it appears this may be a crop, which further highlights the image's IQ limitations.

The purple halo around the eagle is unsuited and the central composition less impressive. The bright blue background is OK, but plain. But mainly the critique is centred around the image's fidelity issues.

It was bitter cold and I was shaking. Hand held following the eagle in flight. Over PPed.

I do like the eagle's position and look, very intense.
As per Ash's comments, I could never get satisfactory shots off the K10D if the ISO was >400.
The color balance is also off on my hardware-calibrated IPS monitor. Bald eagles have orange beaks and feet.
When I owned a Bigma I found it very challenging to handhold for an extended period. In my experience, the best way to minimize camera movement in this situation is not to hold my breath--that creates intrinsic biomechanical tension in the body--but rather to exhale into stillness and press the shutter at its initiation. Exhaling is a natural relaxation movement.
I'm sure this is very subjective.
