Learning to climb
Lens: 55-300 Camera: K-7 Photo Location: Maine ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/60s Aperture: F8

This is not the kind of photo I usually take but, after cropping it, I liked it. Do you think it works and, if not, what could I have done to improve on it.
Thanks in advance, Susan

The only subject is the woman, but we can't see her face. The person on the left is just a pair of arms. The only context is some rock and what appears to be water.

It is exposed fairly well, but the composition isn't bringing much to the image. I'm a little curious what the first image was if this is a crop of that?

"Learning About Climbing" may be a better title since there is no "Climbing" action.

As usual my preference would be to crop real close to her backpack and to brighten it a bit.

IMO, the idea is conveyed quite well given the suggested Title.

I take it this young lady was apprehensive, hence the title.
The image doesn't quite portray this, which if it did in more visual context of a cliff face and a perplexed direct look into her face then it would be much more impacting.

If we could see the before crop, then maybe we could help more. As it is, there doesn't quite seem to be enough context. I do get a sense of worry or apprehension through the body language though.

Also, I think perhaps the clarity can be turned down a notch.

Thanks all, I will revisit the original and see what I have. I do know that the only way to have gotten her face in the shot would have been to have stepped off the cliff myself and hover in midair. Not going to happen .

wishi, what do you mean by turning down the clarity (I use PSE9)? Thanks.
