Nature Couple from today for C&C

It was getting close to sunset, so thought I'd take a quick walk. Came up with a couple shots.

#2 is quite pleasant.
The question I have is: "what message were you trying to portray with these shots?"
I'm not sure they were conveyed all that well here.
#1 is overexposed (the textures of the ice are lost) and #2 has that distracting bare twig pointing up alongside the subject, which is rendered a little flat and also with little texture.
The snow falling in the background is a good effect, though, and the colours are warm and inviting.

The first one has a large expanse of uninteresting brown. The second could use some contrast, though it is not really an eye-popper, sorry.

Thanks for the comments. Don't usually wonder out into the snow, so just getting out and taking a few pics was a plus.
