Just another picture taken from the yard. Have not had the camera out much this winter but brought it out and trying to get some good shots of the new dog. Any thoughts that could improve my shots his welcome and appreciated thanks in advance.

Would suggest stopping down to at least F8, the lens is a bit sharper and you'll eliminate a bit of the fringing along the edge of the dog (most noticeable near the nose, where the lens struggles with the black/white transition).

White balance - the snow is a little blue. You can always set a custom white balance off the snow. I changed it in photoshop, by telling photoshop that the snow a neutral color.

A bit brighter exposure to bring out detail in the eyes would be fantastic, though you'll be close to blowing out the highlights. The camera has a hard time metering with all the snow - pay close attention to the histogram and the blinkies when reviewing your photos and bump the EV until you have the exposure where you want it. In this case, better to expose a bit to right and maintain detail on your subject, at the expense of the background (snow). I bumped the exposure a bit and was able to a bit of detail in the eyes, but not enough.

Here's how it turned out:
