Lens: Sigma 600 mm Camera: Pentax K5 Photo Location: Oslo ISO: 800 Shutter Speed: 1/15s Aperture: F8

Orchid shot using Pentax k5 and Sigma 600 mm. Mainly whitebalance and curves adjusted in Lightroom.

What do you think of this shot? Any good? Any tips for improvement both regarding composition and Lightroom work?

I like it. Perhaps a bit more saturation.

Is it supposed to be yellow? Looks like you still need some white balance tweaking

The petals are too washed out. You seem to be barely holding the detail of the leaf veins. You may have needed multi level lighting (tone down the soft light and put a spot or snoot light on the blossom).

Nice composition and DoF!

My intention was to keep the details low to get a high key look on the shot.
The white balance is intentionally set to a yellower shade than the flower naturally has to get a warmer and "older look".

Well, it seems we all missed the intent! Perhaps the reason why is the darker blossoms, out of focus, in the BG, negating some of the High Key effect. Also the darker stem may be doing the same. For High Key, the lighting then seems to be about right. The warmth is a matter of preference.

Perhaps you need to ask, how we missed the intent?

I think I understand what you were going for. The purple elements on the right side of the frame are distracting for me. I think a portrait oriented shot with more stem, and less of the other blossoms, may have been more successful.

Great feedback BigDave and grainbelt. I agree on the points regarding the stem and the blossoms, they should be lighter and more washed out.
