Interesting shot. When doing outdoor night shots however, I usually set the camera for Tungsten WB. Unless the sky is really that red, it'll balance the night sky out.

Well that's a unique scene.
The dynamic range is certainly blunted by the high ISO, but otherwise the image itself is pleasantly rendered and interesting.
That whitened patch at image right is a little out of place (could do with a crop) and recovering the highlights may help to render the ice a little better at the centre.

This seems to be like an illustration. I like it very much. Congrats.

Very cool/hot shot! Is that the DA 18-55 lens that comes with them?

Hamilton, yes it's the DA kit lens. Looking to upgrade to a prime soon... but for the dollar value on this lens it really is pretty versatile for a beginner like myself.

At first I thought it was a textured background but then I looked more closely and saw it was snow

I like the fact the red sky gives it warmth but then the snow cools the image back down - nice

For sure. That's a fine lens.

It was hand held, I have a tripod but I hardly use it. Mainly because I generally don't plan shots, which probably is my downfall but I like the sporadic nature of seeing and shooting.

When I first say it I thought is was some sort of japanesse painting or something... personally I enjoy it and I wouldn't change the white balance... Something like this could easily be printed large as an almost abstract to fill a room. The only thing I might try is a touch of noise reduction... but if it softens the snow fall at all I wouldn't even do that... and I could take or leave the vintaging... did you add it or was that how the light came out?

No, the vintaging effect wasn't added. This shot is not really post processed at all, really just wanted to get a gritty effect of falling snow with the high ISO. I did add a border or vignette. I'm curious just how this would turn out as a print.....

If you go big... I might try a metalic print... give it some luster
