Bokeh Critique Please
Lens: Tamron 90 2.8 macro & Pentax DA Camera: K-x Photo Location: The Cabin Porch

I really should read up on bokeh first... but here I am again, cart before the horse.

Are these bokeh? If they are, is the bokeh too dark, light, busy, subtle?

thanks!

Pentax DA

Yup , That be bokeh! The lens you are using is know for it's bokeh quality. Pretty cool stuff you got going there. I would crop the first one so the junction of the stems is at the top left . The diagonal makes the eye follow.

That's entirely up to you young lady. It is a cool picture and it's yours to play with but were it I yes.
Every photog knows about the rule of thirds but when you talk to a painter , he'll tell you about the circle in the square. Basically you can use angles , lines or curves to keep the eye moving in the picture or direct it to a specific area.

Yep, you've got bucketloads of bokeh in this picture, and it's very nice. The pictures are nice too - actually I prefer #1 as I think the shadow complements the primary subject well.

Thanks again seacapt for your great suggestions and encouragement. Yep, as a cropped image I think you are right, a bit more off the bottom.

juu, so nice of you to have a look. Thanks for the kind comments and for explaining why the non-cropped version appeals to you more. I can see how the context of shadow adds to the overall experience of the photo. Whereas, cropped, the seedpod dominates.

love thinking about this and trying out the different perspectives...

Most appreciated!
