Squirrel Test focus
Lens: Sears 135 f2.8 Camera: K100d ISO: 400 Aperture: F8

Trying to get the focus as crisp as possible. Never liked the DA 18-55 lens that came with it. Way too soft for most stuff. Can't afford a nice auto-zoom for now.

I am also trying to learn the finer points of manual assist focus.

How would you rate the quality of this lens? Sears 135mm f2.8

If I compare it to my vivtar 135 2.8, I would say its really soft, especially for F8. At the beginning I tought it was 2.8 ...

Thanks for the info. I thought it should be sharper also as compared to others I've seen. Back to the drawing board.

Your photo of the dummy with cat blows my lens to pieces! That is one sharp lens.

It looks soft to me too. The Sears 135 f2.8 is more well known for it's closeup ability (if this is the one I'm thinking of) than for long range shooting. If you want a nice budget minded 135, look into a Pentax M 135mm f3.5. Don't waste a lot of money trying $10 or $20 lenses unless you know exactly what you are buying (some of them are probably real sleepers).

I went ahead a purchased a SMC 80-200mm F4.5 zoom. I have been much happier with the results.

Here is a shot with it.

And this one is same lens with a Sears 2x converter.
