I cannot criticize this image, it is superbly executed. More than that, it creates an impression.

It is cold indeed, rather bleak - but not depressing.

Look at, and wonder about the craftsmanship of the master who built this perfectly level foundation, that will outlive everyone who looks at this photograph.

I would try a square crop, and remove the collection of small branches altogether. You have three layers of surfaces with different textures. Make it a bit more contrasty. B and W may work. To me this shot is workable. There is something there.

Here are some flavors with additional contrast and a square crop. Also one in B&W. I'm not sure I'm more fond of any of them than I am the originally posted image. Thoughts?

I think I do like the cropped one in the middle the best, but it's close to a tossup.
