Wooden Walkway
Lens: Sigma 10-20 Camera: K-x

I'm not sure what to think on this shot. Creative or just another happy snap. Your thoughts?

I like this picture, although it also looks ok with more cropped off the top, as more of a horizontal composition.

Since you went for the almost-completely symmetrical composition, I would have gone all the way. It would have improved the feeling of balance.

I love the contrast between the orange and the green.

How about a crop from the bottom? Making the walkway slightly less of center view.

Better but I doubt there's an easy solution apart from retaking the shot It's not BAD of course, but you asked for opinions

You are right. It seems that I am trying to change the way I took the shot after the fact with pp. I like the picture, just not thrilled with it and don't know why.

I'd convert it to b&w and grunge it up - give it a bit of mystery. As it is it's a nice enough shot, but what made you take it?

The bottom crop is much more effective.

Although the original version is interesting (partly because of the contrast between the wood's color and the rest of the photo), I prefer that the image be cropped either from the top or from the bottom — or perhaps both. Part of the reason: cropping (especially from the top) emphasizes the distant background or, to put it another way, the photo's depth.
All best,
Stu

I like it a lot. The visual & emotional contrast between walk and woods is stunning.

Diddling with cropping will help but basically it is good photo.

The walkway seems to make a interesting S type curve, but this is lost in the image, as the vantage point is too low to see far enough down the walkway. That might give the image some more "punch", and take it out of the 2D and into the 3D. Just a thought...If you re-shoot...

Have you considered a BW version?

Quick attempt at moody

Five minutes playing in LR3 to create a sombre, moodier version of same (not particularly well done) -- just to see if it works. More time, and working with the RAW file, I am sure an interesting picture can be made from this shot.
