- I did PS on pics
- Prove DA L lens is not only a cheap lens
- test the noise control in long exposure
- HDR performance

The K-x is certainly capable of doing long exposures.
An important aspect of these low light captures is to have a very sturdy support/tripod to avoid camera shake blur, which looks to be a feature of your images (either that or the JPEG compression is too strong to retain the sharp detail).
Apart from this, your images have rendered well.
At f/8, the kit lens is as good as most lenses around.

Images suffer from being too soft, I'd suggest a sturdy tripod + use a 2 sec timer to get mirror lockup.
