Well it's a very pleasant scene with bold contrast and colours.
There's a little too much grass foreground in the frame for my liking and the subject of the image isn't significant enough in the image to capture attention.

It's a fine picture, but there's just nothing screaming "this is cool/beautiful/memorable" about it. I grew up in that part of the country and love the Palouse, but ... the image needs more.

It looks like it was taken mid-day (shadows give that fact away). Maybe a tighter crop closer to sunrise/sunset?

I like the shot but was wondering why did you choose f 5.6 for landscape?
I think f11-f22 would have given it a bit more sharpness

cheers

The wind was blowing and I was trying to freeze the grass. In retrospect I agree it may have been better at f11 or up. The grass may have looked ethereal.

Also, it was a midday shot for sure. I 'forced' it as my flight didn't arrive until 10:00am and left at 4:30pm (squeezed this in between work). I was hoping the clouds would give me a break but the light was pretty harsh.

I tend to agree with the first comment, the foreground is too distracting

It also seems to be lacking some punch, the colours are a little flat. I would try bumping the contrast, and I think this shot would look very good in B&W too(especially with some extra contrast), give it a look see what you think!

I like this very much. Maybe a little crop off the bottom would make it even better, but it's good as it is. I don't think the time-of-day or aperture is a problem; it would look different under different circumstances, but not necessarily better.

I'm not much of a BW conversion guy. No skill. The foreground sloped from right to left in the original. While this was what I saw I couldn't get over the uneasyness it gave the picture so I straightened it without too much effect on the horizon or the rest of the photo. I think the crop is better too. Thanks everyone! I appreciate this board and think it makes us better.

Happy Gilmore: Looks like a slight hill. Whaddya think?
Otto: And a slant to the left.
Happy Gilmore: Nah, it looks that way cause you've only got one shoe on.
