Lens: Pentax 31Ltd Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Russia, Cheboksary, the bank of Volga river ISO: 80 Shutter Speed: 1/350s Aperture: F8

I think I should use boy's shadow better. Any other idea?

For 2:3 frames, the compositions are fine IMHO. I personally try to avoid 2:3 (portrait mode) unless I want to emphasize verticality. These might look better cropped to 3:4 -- try cropping the top of #1 and the bottom of #2.

I think if i was composing this,i would include the entire shadow if it was possible(i dont know if you had the option of 2-3 steps back) and place it in order the head of the shadow would be at the down left corner..Also i would lower my shooting posture a little bit...Love the silluette by the way...Perfect exposure..

Good edits! Especially #3, where you've trimmed away a lot of excess, leaving just what is important. That is the role of editing: remove whatever is not relevant.

I print and display images in various aspects, from long to tall to square. With vertical pictures, unless there is a good reason for stretching, I find that 3:4 or 4:5 are generally most pleasing. Horizontal pictures may look best at 3:2 or 5:3. Look at published photos and notice their aspects. Note which follow these rules, and which break them, and why.

Nice images!

i definitely see too much sky on #1 which draws me away from the subject. Likewise, too much black at the bottom of #2. The crops in the later posts improve this. Very nice images!!

my big problem with the images is the black "box" near the subject' it is very distracting. I like #1 the best and I like the sky, it gives a sense of emptiness to help isolate the subject. #2 definitely needs cropping at the bottom.

I agree with BigDave; the box thing is really, really distracting. I don't really know what it is, and if it is a box, why the boy would have it at the beach. I can't recall ever seeing anyone playing with a box at any beach I've ever visited. So, the result is that the box captures my attention which is not what you want (I'm guessing). Cropping it out as you did, really whacks the image up. My two cents: I'd plan for the next sunset!
