I feel there is a good(ish) photo somewhere in here but not sure how to get the best from this in photoshop.
Any idea's to improve on this would be much appreciated.

Best I can do. Just a straighten and a colour/brightness correction (not sure if that helped though).

Hi

Are you sure it's not the sun? (It is not easy to mix up your moons from your suns )

You have wound down the exposure to such a degree that if it was the moon it would look quite different to my eye. I don't know how close the moon can get to planet earth in your part of the world. Here in Australia the moon can get quite close at certain times of the year but when this happens the moon is quite large this close to the horizon and then it is also not very bright. Also the red sky hints to a sun set, the moon would not create this. (I think)

Be it as it may, I have coaxed out as much detail as the low res JPG would allow me. Tell me what you think.

Greetings

Atomx, the straighten definitely improves the look (should have thought of that)!

lol yes it's definitely the moon. Was taken at about 9:30pm about a week ago so the sun was long gone (it was close to being a full moon and also a very clear night with a 30s exposure). The red sky is either me tweaking colours in PS or could be some light pollution coming from Reading town which is a few miles away. I guess I'm looking to slightly brighten the overly dark spots (bottom left) without making the moon overly bright (perhaps its not possible). Would it help if I have the raw files? I may have them on my home PC so will check when I get back from work.

Here is my contribution: tilt corrected, 16:9 format to reduce the foreground to a proportion closer to 1/3. Two graduated filters to brighten selectively the most distant part of the foreground. What do you think? It was fun to play with it anyway.

I like the new format. I'll have a look into graduated filters (never used them before). Still a little to bright around the moon but is going in the right direction :-)

unfortunatly I dont have the raw for this shot due to having Photoshop CS which does not support the K-m RAW format (I'm just in the process of upgrading to a newer version with K-m support).

cool. I think this is the best so far. It still looks like nigh time but just brightens those dark spots (good job)!

Glad you like it now. This is about as far as I could go to brigthen the dark areas while keeping chroma noise at bay.
