Duck: Practising my flash photography
Lens: Pentax SMC-A 50mm f1.7 Camera: K10D Photo Location: UK ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/180s Aperture: F4.5

Hi,

I've never really used flash before. I got an AF280T recently, so I've been practising. I mounted the flash on a tripod to the right of the duck and bounced off the ceiling. I had a table lamp below angled up to add a bit of fill, but not sure it made much difference. Any advice?

Composition wise, I would move the subject down and to the right slightly so the eye was in the golden ratio spot if I did it again.

Jez

I think you're on the right track, at least to my eye. Your subject is evenly lit with some brighter and darker spots for depth and interest. Nothing looks blown-out. The wood grain to the left of the eye stands out nicely.
