Originally posted by Colorado CJ Thanks guys, yeah Ash, I think I might look into getting this one large format printed to hang in my home. I've never had any large photos printed for me though, so I'm not sure on the cost.
cost depends on so many things. I've seen cheap to quite pricet. Paper, type of print, longevity of print style all have impact as does the quality of work the shop produces. Expect to pay a fair bit more at anyone who specializes in fine art and takes a lot of care to ensure a high quality print
As an example on of the better shops i've used has the following for 20x24 (ok not that large but a good reference) Note all the higher end include time with a print specialist and a proof before final print very useful IMO
Digital on Kodak Photo paper (Fujiflex add 40%)
$71.50
Inkjet (Inkjet prints on gloss and satin inkjet photo papers up to 60" wide.
1:1 time with imaging specialists available .1 test included; 1, 8 x 10 or 1 test strip
$77.00
Fine Art
Available on roll stock up to 44" wide, and on cut sheet up to 35x46. (Call for availability).
1:1 time with imaging specialists available.1 test included; 1, 8 x 10 or 1 strip test
NOTE this is on high quality Papers)
Sizes
17x22 - $77
22x30 - 137.50
Canvas
Fine art prints on 57" wide rolls of 100% cotton canvas. Coating included
1:1 time with imaging specialists available. 1 test included; 1, 8 x 10 or strip test
17x22 - $84
22x30 - $150
Of course if you are going to print enough (enough being in my opinion over 20 per year (either in size or equivalent bulk runs of smaller sizes) then buying a big Canon or Epson large format printer and having your system calibratd pays for itself (in other words if you want to get into the art show business)
Edit - though i have done a few shows I've yet to justify the cost of setting up the home print shop. If i would pursue the large outdoor summer circuit i'd spend the money in a heartbeat
