Tugboat in Fog
Lens: DA*50-135 Camera: K5 Photo Location: Port Orchard ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/500s Aperture: F8

Fog photos are often dim in tone, flat in contrast and soft. I really like fog images but often find it difficult to keep my mitts off them with regard to pp.

Any comments regards fog photos are very appreciated and/or regards this one.
ISO was actually 640 if that matters.

Phil

Hi Phil
shot for my soul. Good composition, perspective and a sense of mystique created by the mist.
Takovo atmosphere would jiuš over emphasized "higher" amount of noise, regardless of whether the photos in color or perhaps even better in B & W version.
Regards V

Hi,
I hope you know what effect the noise I thought. At one time we used the motifs in the fog High - Speed Ektacrome photo film. The results were fantastic!
regards

Nicely shot, fog can be tricky but this one is well done

I do like fog with noise as well as mentioned by Velja , i used to shoot tri-x frequently with a one stop push in fog. gritty but looked excellent

This has a sort of eerie feeling to it, as the boat emerges from the fog. I really love it, well done!

I have the same problem. I have several dozen photos that I took on Anacortes Island a few years ago and it's hard to keep from over tweaking them.
I just have to remember that the fog isn't obscuring the subject; it is the subject; or a big part of it anyway.

Thank you all for the comments. Its great to see this shared interest in fog. Interesting comment from Parallax that fog is the subject or a big part of it - something to keep in mind.

A very nice shot. I personally would have waited a bit to take the shot So there would be less light in the sky. Don't know if you have or not. But very nice composition
And I think you had dust on your sensor (in the middle on the right side)

Great shot, I love the clear foreground with the fog getting thick as our eye goes deeper into the photo.

Very nice. Looks almost like a vintage shot. It doesn't seem quite like you're in this era somehow...

Could be because on the left side there is a white powerboat. Might be worth taking it out - i'll think about it. thanks

I may be wrong, but the way I read magkelly's comment was that it was done so nicely that it makes you think of a different era than the one we're actually in; not that there was some sort of discrepancy in the photo.
Either way, don't change anything.
